Macabre Intentions Custom Made Costumes

About Us

Joe GoratowskiMy name is Joseph Goratowski and I’m a Wisconsin-based artist, a father, and a family man. From a young age, I was drawn to the worlds of horror, fantasy, and the macabre, fascinated by the power of characters to tell stories and evoke emotion. My imagination has taken me to places I never thought possible, shaped in part by the works of H.R. Giger, Guillermo del Toro, Derek Stenning, and the stories of H.P. Lovecraft. I’ve also drawn inspiration from films like Blade Runner, the Mad Max series, Tank Girl, and Love, Death & Robots, as well as games such as Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Dark Souls, Fallout, Metro 2033, and Warhammer 40k. Nearly 10 years ago, I founded Macabre Intentions to focus on one-of-a-kind creations where imagination meets craftsmanship. One of my unique strengths lies in kit bashing - taking disparate parts, materials, and found objects and combining them into cohesive, original designs.

Over the past 26 years in the haunt industry, I’ve devoted myself to creating characters that feel lived-in and intentional, carrying personality and presence in every detail. Through this work, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with some of the top haunted attractions across the globe, bringing designs to life that fully immerse audiences. My costumes are more than scene-stealers, they’re walking photo opportunities for midway and line actors. I don’t just make costumes; I create Icons.

My creativity has also extended into film, designing costumes for productions such as The Vampire and the Vigilante, Z Dead End, and Arena Wars, translating my vision into characters that exist both on screen and in the imagination. Along the way, I’ve had the honor of meeting and working alongside some truly amazing artists who have inspired and challenged me. Looking ahead, I’m excited to continue pushing the boundaries of design, exploring new characters and techniques.

Every project I take on is guided by the same principle: to create something original.

Where artistry meets the Macabre.
